Money Management and Greed: Aligning with the Right Purpose in Life

Money is a powerful tool that can either build or destroy, depending on how it is managed. The Bible teaches that wealth itself is not evil, but the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil (1 Timothy 6:10). Proper money management requires wisdom, discipline, and a heart aligned with God’s purpose. Proverbs 21:5 states, “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.” This highlights the importance of thoughtful stewardship—earning, saving, and giving in a way that reflects divine wisdom rather than reckless ambition. Greed, on the other hand, blinds people to their true purpose. Jesus warned in Luke 12:15, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” When wealth becomes an idol, it leads to selfishness, corruption, and an insatiable desire for more, leaving people empty despite material success. Biblical wisdom encourages generosity, reminding us that blessings are meant to be shared. Proverbs 11:25 states, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” This reinforces that true wealth lies in giving, not hoarding. Ultimately, money should serve God’s purpose rather than enslave us. Jesus taught in Matthew 6:24 that one cannot serve both God and money, emphasizing the need for spiritual priorities. When managed righteously, wealth becomes a tool for good—supporting family, helping the needy, and furthering God’s kingdom. True financial wisdom lies in using money as a means to fulfill a higher calling, ensuring that our pursuit of prosperity aligns with faith, integrity, and love for others.
